The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) has received notice of the following firefighter fatality:

It is in great sadness, that we as a Brotherhood, post the 64th Line Of Duty Death for 2016 from the United States Fire Administration. Fellow Brother Firefighter & Safety Officer Charles E. Horan has made the ultimate sacrifice in love for their fellow man. Our sincerest condolences go out to his family, friends and our Brothers & Sisters with the North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department.

Incident Description: While preparing to leave home for a response call to assist law enforcement gain access to the roof of a building, Fire Safety Officer Horan tripped and fell, suffering a severe injury. Safety Officer Horan was treated by fellow responders and transported to the hospital where, despite all efforts, he succumbed to his injuries several days later.
