I just finished reading this article (linked below) about the Texas governor requesting federal aid and not having received any response. I can't understand why the president would not respond to these devastating wildfires which burned well over 1,000,000 and 1/2 acres and have taken the lives of two incredibly dedicated and decent men in the line of duty. It took the president only hours to respond to the horrific and devastating tornadoes in Alabama and the South. So why is it taking weeks to respond to the Texas wildfires. Is the devastation caused by a wildfire any less significant than that of a tornado, is the loss of life and property claimed by wildfire in any way less significant than that of a tornado.
I currently live in tornado alley, I have seen firsthand what a tornado does to communities and how devastating and completely demoralizing a tornado event can be to a community. I have walked with people who have lost everything to tornadoes. I have also walked with people who lost everything to fire including wildfires. The predicaments and the losses were the same. Our fellow firefighters in Texas are still facing tremendous drought conditions, high winds and devastating wildfires. Our politicians cannot play politics with the lives of firefighters and the communities threatened by these wildfires.
One can only hope that our president will provide the aid requested by the governor of Texas in the next few days before another firefighter or another community is lost. Here's a link to the article that prompted my outrage my concern and my disappointment in the system. http://www.fireengineering.com/index/articles/Wire_News_Display/140...
