Where firefighters come to talk training

Hello all,

I am starting up an explorer program in my fire department and I need some help. My chief asked me for some ideas for a good training curriculum for the explorers. If anyone can help me with this task and any other information on this subject, it would be greatly appreciated. I really want to do the best job I possibly can to motivate the future of the fire service properly. Thank you in advance.

I came from a explorer background, we were established with boy scouts of america, for insurance and to get the explorer post number from the local council, we had officers, secetary treasurer chiefs etc. by-laws and sops , our training was company weekly drills with the regular members, plus we had a state fire instructor as a leader so we got scene support and ff1 training just no state certificate and of course when i turned 18 had to take those courses all over again to get state cert's

Hey J.C. !!!!!!! I have set up two programs with over 30 explorers currently employed in public service. There are a few routes you can go to make this happen:
1) Go through the boy scouts of America the will handle the insurance and have a few guidelines .
2) Go through your fire department. You will have to do your own guide lines and add them to the fire department insurance

- SOG's
- Meetings
- Fund Rasiing
-Uniforms
_ Gear
- Training
- Fun Stuff

These are all things you want to think about. Please also remember you may get kids that just don't fit in or might not even be able to do the job. That is okay because this may be all they have. They might not have a great home life and need to be at the firehouse. Here is my phone numbers and email contact me at anytime (toddcmckee@hazmatohio.com 740-507-8802). I will be more than happy to help you get your program started. A lot of work with a lot of rewards! Thank you for being a part of FEC site! Your friend Todd McKee
