Attached is a link to a great update from the Modesto California PAO Chief Hugo Patino,
our thoughts and prayers are still with firefighter Jason Clevenger for rapid recovery. Our thanks to the Modesto Bee for their excellent coverage of this event. It's refreshing to see an organization approach event with such professionalism and integrity. In all the coverage here you see very little finger-pointing or chest beating rather you see a group of dedicated professionals who understand the risks and the rewards alike in the profession and art of structural firefighting. Rapid roof failure can be attributed to a wide variety of causes, from poor construction to improper loading the reasons often are not apparent from the exterior visual inspection. Vertical ventilation will always be an extremely high risk operation and one which must be done with the utmost caution and focus on the risk reward benefit.
