About the Open Fire Academy...

One of my greatest passions, is training. The key, to me, is ensuring that the person on the ground, on the nozzle, or on the engine, has the resources and information they need to be safe. Exploding SUV Transfer Case

During the last week of February we responded to a car fire on the highway. Nothing too difficult, done a bunch of them. What makes this one memorable is that the 4X4 transfer case (located on the rear of the transmission) exploded sending fragments over 50 feet away. All of these types of transfer cases are vented in order to release pressure during normal operations. Apparently the pressure increased too fast for the vent or seals causing the case to explode. The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) has received notice of the following firefighter fatality: CO

It is in great sadness that we as a Brotherhood post the 64th Line Of Duty Death in 2012 from the United States Fire Administration. Fellow Brother Firefighter & Chief of Department Don Felton has made the ultimate sacrifice in love for their fellow man. Our sincerest condolences go out to his family and members of the Southern Park County Fire Protection District.
