IFSI Winter Fire School

- Four 12 hour NFA classes
- Look Up, Look Down, Look Around This course helps the first responding initial attack resources examine the wildland fire environment and the indicators firefighters and supervisors should observe on the fireline in order to anticipate fire behavior.
- Farm Machinery Rescue Many area departments will find themselves involved in this type of incident, especially during planting and harvest seasons. This class is designed to present the student with foundational information regarding common farm machinery related rescues.
- Rural Water Supply The availability of enough water certainly affects the success and safety of all fire operations and many other emergency situations. How to get enough water to the fire is the primary focus of this class. Methods of moving water from the source to the fire scene will be presented.
- Forming the Attack Team on Scene Organizing and structuring the fire scene is vital to successful and safe outcomes. This class presents the organizational concepts necessary to generate quality fire attack and other operational teams on the fire ground. - Quality Customer Service Have you ever thought about your community as being your customers? This course presents the training needed to inspire and encourage your organization to deliver a quality product no matter what the emergency.
- Mayday-Calling for Help Calling or hearing a “Mayday” on an emergency scene means the situation has become critical, perhaps life threatening. Being able to operate calmly and appropriately during this condition will most likely effect the successful outcome of the incident. When to activate a “Mayday” and how to respond are the major issues discussed in this class. Instructor: Eddie Enright is a third-generation member of the fire service and retired after 38 years from
Chicago Fire Department where he served as a Deputy District Chief.
- Passenger Train Emergency Response Presented by Amtrak, this class is a must for any department that may respond to a passenger train incident. Information includes how to stop train traffic during rail emergencies, who to contact regarding passenger train problems and how to gain access to passenger rail cars. Information will also be provided on how to attend the follow-up “hands on” portion of the training in your department’s area.
- Training Resource Showcase This class will present many of the types of training opportunities that are available through the Illinois Fire Service Institute. Free CDs, DVDs and on-line materials will be presented via live on-line access demonstrations. - Fire Sprinkler Systems This class is presented through the courtesy of the National Fire Sprinkler Association. Cecil Bilbo, the instructor for the course, is a designer and national instructor for NFSA. The basics of fire sprinkler systems along with how to support systems during a fire event will be covered.
