Thank you to the Brotherhood

I want to take this time to personnally thank the fire service brotherhood. It is amazing how many phone calls, emails, text messages, facebook messages and comments that I received during our recent flooding disaster and firefighter death. It was so amazing what these messages did for the Horry County fire rescue Department and me personnally. The friendship, compasion and support shown is greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten.

The Dynamics of Leadership: Putting the Organization First

As I reflect back over the years in my career there is one lesson I remember that resinates from my mentors, “If you put the organization first, then your wants and ambitions will soon follow. But it is always about the orgainization first, your suborindates second and you are last.” Well I have to often think just how previlant is this in fire service mentality …especialy the leaders. This mentality is reenforced everytime we hear the “what is in it for me” comments.
