We have created a site for responders run exclusively by responders... It is a place with great fellowship on the good days and solid and confidential support when the "bad call" happens. As a Chaplain of over 25 years we wanted a place that responders could come and receive the support for traumatic events with trained CISM responders and more.
Welcome to the greatest training site in the World!
This where the serious trainers learn form each other, this where we as a family grow and you are a part of it. How exciting is that!
Please take a look at the group called HazMat News and Training. We are currently talking about some great things and I would love to hear what YOU have to say. Todd McKee
Andrew,
There ares some pre fire students who are looking to take a forcible entry course. The only person in Ontario that I know of and worth taking would be yours. Do you have an email that I can send them.
Thanks for adding the Peaked Roof Ventilation video to the FE Community. I was very surprised and very humbled when I was told it was there. I also appreciate the good reviews from you as well as the other brothers out there.
We hope to do a few more videos as well. Maybe two more before the end of the year.
I know I'm the face of the video, but it's easy to get up and talk when your passionate about something. The real key was my buddy Dave Brasells, who was a photo journalist/producer for 20+ years. He's been involved in the volunteer fire service for close to 10 years and got hired by Nashville earlier this year. His experience and "trick shots" (shaft of tool, inspection h***, etc.) really gave the video something "different". I just tell him what I want to do, draw up an outline, and present the material he does all the filming, editing, ideas, etc.
I'm glad you enjoyed it and I hope we can keep you satisfied in the future. Stay safe.
Andrew.

Yeah I got the video , thanks Andrew
I threw the VES video on Common Sense Firefighting with the comments of the Capt going in the window also. I expect that it'll be good for the learning and discussions
The cage is raised by an electric winch mounted above the door. I believe the door is held in place simply by wait. It does not lock in the open position it merely is held by the winch. Pretty scary stuff. Much heavier than a standard roll-up door. I doubt the vice grip trick would work to keep it up in place.
There was talk about attacking the channel up top and pulling the cage down flat onto the ground. Again, weight is a concern. The cage is made of 1/2" rebar so we've talked about a circ saw or Hurst hydraulic cutters to cut out the size of the door. Ideally we would like to cut the whole bottom half of the cage out, but then you would have the top half hanging by only the winch....
Brass,
I had the opportunity to attend the OFCA HOT session in Oakville last spring...just wondering if you'll be there again? I have a few friends that want to attend, and I'll probably repeat the program as well. Thanks.
Phil Corsi, Ventura County Fire T30. Teaches Truck Co ops out here on the west coast a lot. Not sure about FDIC, maybe Firehouse Expo in Baltimore (I may get kicked of for saying that on this site lol) Great Guy, very knowledgeble. Sorry I did not get a chance to respond to your email yet. got to get some pics for you.
There are several states that have Smoke Diver Programs. They have a wide range of difficulty (from 2 to 6 days). Georgia's is one of the toughest. It is 6 days and 60-70 hours. The Georgia program started in 1978 and there are a total of 730 Ga. Smoke Divers since 1978.
It is basically a firefighter safety & survival course that pushes you to your physical and mental limits. Critical decision making and adaptability in high-stress environments is a key part of the training. It is over 90% hands-on (very realistic). Over the 30 years of the program, the pass rate is approximately 60%. It is a difficult class, but very educational and very rewarding.
Checkout the video I posted "GSD Class 37" and you can checkout our website at We are in the process of building a new site but the old one still has some info about the program.
We reserve 4 spots in each class for out-of-state candidates. We've had out-of-state candidates from IN, WA, AZ, OH, and FL. The next class will be November 1-6, 2009.
Hows it going up there Brother? Drill school is fun but, this is the last time. Wish I could make it to your class at FDIC. Hope life is going good for you and the family.
Good to meet you up at FDIC Andrew. Wish I could have come to your class. I was just texting with Materi about how great it is to be a dad, so congrats on the addition.
Not much brother. At work working on the Officer Development program. If Mark goes down to the states with you, take care of him. We need him back in one piece. Stay Safe.
