Exterior and Interior Operations, Fire Behavior

I was recently having a discussion with a member of another FD and during this discussion we began talking about a call in the past (as you know us firefighters like to do).  He mentioned that he was interior moving down a hallway toward the fire room when someone operating outside sprayed water in through the window into the fire room which "caused it to flashover" so he pulled his crew back "saving their lives".See More

New SCBA low air alarms, good or bad

I wanted to get some opinions from others and see if anyone can convince me that the new standards for Low Air Alarms is a good thing.  I personally think that the problem was a training problem and was being corrected by proper training.  But now we will have to go back to the old training methods of not leaving until the low air alarm activates.  My department has adopted the policy of air-management and monitoring your air and that of your team to use it effectively and leave at the…See More

Are you an Instructor? Why NOT?

I completed my Instructor several years ago and at the time I was only interested in teaching short, hands-on classes if any at all.  I always liked passing on information to my members at the station.  I started teaching (assisting) some basic firefighter classes and quickly found how much I enjoyed it.  Not only was it fun and fulfilling to see a new firefighter go from learning to don gear to making actual fire attacks; but it is also a great way to stay current on basic skills and new…
