It depends on the condition of the vehicle. I would check with Sutphen for their costing models for refurbish. We have refurbished a couple of ladder trucks and many aid cars. We look at about 90K for aid cars and $250K - $300K for ladder trucks. A lot of the cost is in the details of the refurbish. Engine, drive train, transmission, compartments and other accessories are these items you want to control the costs. If done right, you can save a ton of money on a refurb but if the condition of the engine is “too far gone” then a new one or a used one from another department may be your best option. Call a Sutphen or any other fire engine manufacture representative to start the discussion.

I concur with John, Contact a dealer they will run all the numbers for you!
My personal experience is that we had 2 pumpers refurbished at the cost of about $200,000 each because of the same funding issues. Now we still have 2 mechanical headaches with a nice paint job and pretty lights! it was a quick temporary fix however now we have to try to find new money on top of the money we already put in them plus the repair bills until we do.
