Bio:: Mauro Porcelli is a retired City of Orlando Firefighter/Paramedic with twenty-five years of fire service experience.

He started his career with Marion County Fire/Rescue in 1988 where he advanced quickly through the ranks of Lieutenant and Captain. At twenty-three, Mauro was the youngest, highest ranking officer for a professional firefighter in the State of Florida, holding the rank of District Commander. He eventually left Marion County for the City of Orlando Fire Department from which he retired.

Mauro is a highly decorated firefighter, receiving several commendations, including one from The United States Congress, Florida House of Representatives and Florida State Governor’s office, and two years as Firefighter of the Year with commendations from the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mauro also received two medals of Distinction for Valor and Heroism in the line of duty.

Mauro worked in some of the busiest stations and roughest neighborhoods in the state. His life long experience and “street cred” earned him the respect of his peers and professionals alike.

During his career, he gave selflessly of his time to mentor rookies in the firehouse as well as others seeking his advice on how to succeed and advance in his beloved profession. His book grew out of this desire to help others as they “Survive the Firehouse” This book is a collection of his insights, foibles, pet peeves, overall wisdom and tips on how to make it as a firefighter.
