Bio:: Dan Rice has been a member of the Bladensburg Fire District since 2000 starting his career as a junior firefighter. Upon completion of his high school career Dan attended Hocking College where he received certification as a firefighter level II, EMT-Basic, and Wildland Firefighting, along with multiple other college courses. Certifications for Dan include Firefighter II, Paramedic, CFSI, Ohio FOI and FOII. He is employed by the City of Mount Vernon, and volunteers as an Asst. Chief of the Bladensburg Fire District. Future plans for Dan include completion of an associates and bachelorette degree in fire science. He hopes to encourage firefighters both young and old and continue to motivate everyone to become masters of the craft/

As all of the “new” items are appearing in the fire service there are several firefighters that are all or nothing when it comes to adopting the tactics or strategies. My personal definition of a firefighter: Someone who will risk it all to save a life, whether it is the life of a total stranger or the life of a fellow brother who has been put in harms way. A firefighter is a person with the ability to perform and succeed as an ordinary person placed in extra ordinary positions. A firefighter is a person that can walk into his station and put aside any wrong doings from any of the firefighters in those four walls because those people are his BROTHERS, and no matter what has been done in the past to hurt or tear it apart, it can be pushed aside because family will always be family despite the occasional efforts to avoid the unavoidable. A firefighter is one of a depleting few that will do the job he’s called to do, with an angel watching over his right shoulder and a captain over his left he will face the unstoppable, and stop it.
