Fire Engineering Training Community

Where firefighters come to talk training

At my fire house we recently lost our computers and internet access, but thats a drawn out legal battle we wont get into. This actually had a flip side nobody thought it would, the bonding that came about was unbeleivable. Most of the guys except for a few would usually be on line for one reason or another and kinda be hidden most of the day. Now the guys are hangin out all day telling stories, playing board games pitchen in cooking. Its funny how the lack of technology has made us a tighter group, and we are the better for it. Im not saying we shouldnt have acess to computers I think its a good thing to have for us on many levels. As for bringing us together as a group its what we needed. Just thought I would share.

Hi Shawn,

I agree, you hate to lose anything technology wise today, but one thing that can happen out of it is you can get back to the "Journals" that on each shift had to be filled out. The information in those books were priceless and even though the software programs today have a journal section, unless everyone has access to the computer or the time, the information just doesn't seem to get out anymore. Way back when, the guys used to sit down at the kitchen table and each take their turn looking at the past day(s) activities.
