Timothy Patrick replied to Shawn Tibbitts's discussion often overlooked part of the fire service in the group Tradition, TRADITION!
"Shawn, matbe you've heard this, maybe there is even some validating proof of it, (something I'd like to see) but anyway, as told to me by a really old timer, who ran with the horses in his day. This was when I first came on the job 30…"

"Enjoyed reading your thoughts Shawn and I share your frustration. Many of today's young firefighters aren't interested in Fire Prevention. I'm beginning to believe that many new recruits believe Fire Prevention is a threat to their…"

Random Thought of the day

Sitting at my desk gazing out the window as the clouds gently sweep across the brilliant blue sky, I ponder a deep thought I had the night before which was so brilliant it defined me and the moment so beautifully and perfectly with only a half dozen words or so. I scratch my head and continue to gaze searching and grabbing for a thought that has now completely left my memory for ever, and wonder could it really of been that good If I have already forgotten it? All this time I sit and ponder I’m…See More

Dave LeBlanc replied to Shawn Tibbitts's discussion My two cents on painting a helmet in the group Leatherheads
"Mike, I have used it many times, for helmets and other projects. It does a good job, although sometimes it requires multiple applications. On my first repaint I was able to peel off several bad paint jobs and get down to the factory paint on a…"

I'll let you know. It wouldn't be the first time one of us went to help out at another department's training and found ourselves roasted on the spit!

Hey Brother!! Thanks for the good comments on the article. I actually wrote it to help several local brothers in redoing theirs. I truly enjoy the process and when it is done, the helmet feels that much more a part of your own history. As for the paint, well. 'Nough said, but I'll be callin' on you if I ever need help with leather! Thanks again. (Just saw a burned up lid belonging to another officer in my department, he took a beating at a training burn run by another department. The paint is all raised up on the crown and I'm concerned that his lid is cooked.., knowing him, he isn't pleased. I'm dying to hear what happened.
