Where firefighters come to talk training

I would be interested to know what other volunteer departments have for training requirements, how often you hold trainings, and are there any mandatory requirements and if so how you enforce the rules.

Please let me know the size of your department and the number of calls you respond to in a year.

thanks

Art,

We are a 100% volunteer fire district. Our trainings are twice a month minimum with a Saturday training ever other month or so. We go by quarters with all of our attendance, from trainings, to making runs. We have it set up so if you have three fire trainings in three months you need to attend two of them.  This all falls into your accumulative score of runs, meetings, and trainings. If these numbers do not work out for two quarters consecutively or three over a four quarter period you are dismissed from the department.  We are a department of two stations, eleven pieces of equipment, and 26 members at the present time. We also assure no member goes through anything less than their FFI certification when they get on. And we only handle around 350 runs per year give or take.

Dan,

Thanks for the information.

We are an all volunteer department operating out of one station. We have training available every Tuesday evening except the first one (business meeting) and the last Saturday and Thursday of the month. We run around 250 calls a year if I am remembering correctly. We require 2.5 hours of approved training a month to maintain an active status.
