Is Crude Oil (heavy crude oil) lighter or heavier than water?

I'm your huckleberry!

It is lighter than water and not by much with a specific gravity of 0.933 and water having 1.0. Heavy oils are often degraded because they are exposed to water, bacteria or air which causes the oil to maintain it's heavier fractions instead of lighter ones.
