Where firefighters come to talk training

When should you take your leather helmet out of service ??? Ihave heard after 5 years of active service mine is going on 10 and is still in good shape the paint is a little rough but everything else is in good shape.. Has anyone heard how many years you should keep one in service????

-As long as the helmet can pass an inspection and all portions are serviceable than the helmet can remain in service.
-I have never heard of a service life of five years on the leather. In fact, many firefighters I know have had there leather in service for an entire career.
-There are many firefighters that are wearing their father's helmet. All they did was replace the internal components and paint the helmet (properly of course) so as to have the suspension system ready to serve another twenty years.
