Fire Engineering Training Community

Where firefighters come to talk training

I am from Louisiana and I am researching what other states are doing to benefit volunteers. My state offers volunteers a 500 dollar tax deduction toward state taxes. If anyone has any information on what your state does, please help me out. Thanks, Charlie

One of the combination departments got a grant that covered the cost of six (6) credit hours at the local University. Don't know if that has lapsed or not. Another combo department gives something like $10-15 bucks per hour (2 hours min) for vollies who respond to the station.
Many of the Volunteer Companies in MI offer up to ten dollars per call plus an additional 10 for every hour past the first, but these are local policies not State mandated, Volunteers in SC have the opportunity through their FD to attend classes at the State Fire Academy as a bit of an incentive for the volunteers and as a way to maintain a high level of readiness within their own Dept.
At my dept in CO our Vol. get $35 per call, also $65 per shift on the weekends, each shift is 8 hrs and runs from Fri night till Sun night during our wildland season. They also get Vol pension after 10 years of service which is threw the state.
