Truss Construction!!!!

Everywhere in the fire service there is talk of truss construction.

We see it built. We know it's dangers. We respond to it. We die in it.

What is your departments policy on fires in truss constructed builidngs? If your department doesn't have a "policy", what is your fire company's policy? What should we do when we respond to fires in truss constructed buildings?

Good post Tom
I think we also need to investigate the basement even when it doesn;t have a outside entrance. If we send a FF aroound the back to see what is going on, this memeber can open/vent a basemnt window a small amount and see what the smoke conditions are comming from the opening. If it's pouring out we have a basment fire. Can we tell from this, if the fire is in the truss holding the main floor? Maybe.Can we tell if the main floor truss will fail when the hose team enters? The answer to this question is another question - can we afford to take the chance of letting the hose team enter on the main floor without knowing for sure?
Some may question the logic of venting a basemnt with out a hose line going into the area. But I think it's better to know and have to play some catch up to the fire or even chnage to a defensive attack than let the hose team enter the main floor over a basement fire and then eventually try to fish them out with a RIT operation
