Baby Rescue using a Firefighter VRS

In this video we will discuss and demonstrate how a VRS (Versatile Rescue System) can be used to rescue a baby or small child - Both 1 FF and 2 FF methods will be reviewed. Regardless of the members available, this rescue is performed using a "one handed rappel" technique with either the Sterling F4 or CMC Escape Artist. It's important to note that neither manufacturer of either DCD (Descent Control Device) condones performing a one handed rappel using their device as the user could loose control of their descent. Both manufacturers advise using a second break hand to control the tail end of the rope throughout the rappel - This can be difficult, and in some cases impossible when cradling an infant or small child in one arm and operating the DCD with the other. With proper training and extensive practice a one handed rappel CAN BE performed safely and efficiently and in extreme cases be implemented to save a life when all other options are not possible or would take too long.
