When I originally opened your post on the Rescue Artist I was taken to a web page called Ning and could not get out of the site. I was able to correct the problem with help from my son. I retracted a post as a precaution to the potential problem and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. I opened it as I have men in my crew that use thie product and was concerned. I have received the information you were looking for as well as I and there is no recall or problem and they are still being manufactured. I will attach to this comment the information directly from CMC Rescue about this device.

Hello Captain Sampson,
There have been no recalls on any of the CMC devices and I would be interested in knowing where you heard that from. We have had some modifications and improvements to the Escape Artist device since it was introduced, but those have been rolling enhancements and in no way indicating there was an underlying concern. We did introduce a new double brake version to help alleviate a concern for a person/department that may not have much opportunity to train on the units. In a panic situation (over squeeze) friction will be applied and the person will not travel as fast. The double brake version has a operation range in the middle. The original version concept remains unchanged, the handle has just been moved to be similar to the double so the manufactured parts are similar. Therefore we do have 2 versions right now and we intend on keeping both as options.
