Has anybody heard of any problems with the CMC escape artist descender. I was told by somebody the other day that they have stopped selling them do to a defect.

I'm a CMC dealer and I haven't received any notification from CMC regarding any recall of the escape artist.

-Jim, I have not heard of CMC discontinuing the sale of the Escape Artist. What I do know is that the earlier models had problems with the rope running through the device and getting "pinned" on the guide pins inside the device itself. If you do an on line search I'm sure you can locate pictures of this. I saw them on a blog site.
-Again, it was on the earliest models of the Escape Artist. CMC has done some upgrades to the device they sell now. That said, I use CMC gear myself and have had no problems with their products.
-Contact CMC directly, they will be the best in getting accurate info to you.
