Where firefighters come to talk training

Love You Man !

I just read Chief Reasons ( Art Goodrich) blog titled "Sudden Separation". It was very touching Chief, and I hope that everyone who reads it takes an important life lesson from it. It reminded me somewhat of Chief Rick Lasky's Pride & Ownership class that I enjoyed several years ago in Myrtle Beach, SC. As any of you who have had a Lasky & Salka class know, they are perhaps the most motivating moments you will ever spend in a classroom anywhere in the United States no matter how many… Continue

Corrective Actions In The Name Of Firefighter Safety

Once you are aware of, and have an understanding of the 16 firefighter life safety initiatives as presented by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation; we will need to implement those initiatives into our daily operations whether on the scene of an emergency or back at the firehouse. That is-if we are to succeed in ensuring that everyone goes home ! No matter your longevity in the fire service, one year or forty years, I would bet my last toad on the stump that you have been involved in,… Continue

Adrenaline rushes, mistakes, Intentional Stupidity

Just as many of you, I receive notification from The U.S. Fire Administration upon the occurance of an LODD in our nation's fire service. Each brings a sickening knot in my stomach, and tears are common at this stage of my life upon news of a fallen brother even if I don't know them personally. Death, no matter it's cause in the line of duty, is a particularly traumatic experience for those of us who fail to convey the knowledge we have in our possession that would have, or could have prevented… Continue

Responding to Non Emergency Calls re: Fire Service Court -Fire Engineering Radio

Certainly enjoyed this informative Podcast! It raises issues that just 10 or even fewer years back wouldn't have aroused curiosity to many of us. Remember when we used to fill residential swimming pools ?

A few years ago, I recall being dispatched to a residence where EMS was already on scene. The EMT and Paramedic were trying to maneuver a gurney with patient out an entry that was obstructed by large shrubbery and low tree limbs. I chopped a clearing just enough to allow passage of the… Continue

Evil enjoys freedom

How Ironic that evil should enjoy our freedom. Evil seeps into our society in many forms. We can lockup evil people and lockout those whom we assume or perceive to be evil, but history has proven over and over evil is an abstact entity that cannot be locked away. Only evildoers may be imprisoned or prohibited in any society. Isn't it ironic that our military service men and women are forbidden to encourage Christianity or to possess a bible in an Islamic nation yet, we as Americans are forced… Continue

Is making a mistake a crime

Chief Halton, I was made to smile as I could feel the anger generating from your thoughts thru your pc keyboard. It is a sad fact that so very, very few of today's politicians from the local level to state and federal levels have zero to little knowledge of how the actual agencies they are elected to oversee, function and/or operate. Equally sad are "appointed" heads of such agencies, specifically police, fire, and public safety, who have no prior experience in the specific agency they are… Continue

Blame it on Adrenaline!

Paul Comb's illustration reminds me of the actions one might witness in so many of the nations firefighters ...when the alarm sounds the old adrenaline rush kicks in, and unfortunately it sometimes erases all memory of the hundreds of hours we've invested in training to be safe; suddenly our driving skills are comparable to to those of Earnhardt or Foyt while our knee crams our foot to the floorboard while it is on top of the gas pedal. Adrenaline turns due regard into first due, regardless… Continue

4th of July

Chief Halton,

Always enjoy your insight and opinions, and speaking of insight, how about that John Adams ? Did he pin the tail on the donkey or what !!! Fantastic history lesson Chief ! Now many of the nations younger firefighters may not be aware of the fact that several of those signing the declaration of Independence went on to become volunteer firefighters as well. Each American or person living in America, would do well to study or review how America came about. Then take a few… Continue
