Shawn Grass currently a Division Chief-Shift Commander on the A shift for the Indianapolis Fire Department. He was a Battalion Chief with the Indianapolis Fire Department for 9 years before being promoted. He previously served as the Chief of Training for the Warren Twp. Fire Dept. in Indianapolis, Indiana for 8 yrs before merging with Indianapolis. Shawn is a 28 year member of the fire service that has instructed at both FDIC East and West in Truck Company operations and Flashover. He has instructed Flashover at FDIC in Indianapolis for the last 19yrs. He has an Associate’s Degree in Applied Fire Science and also teaches as an adjunct instructor for Ivy Tech Community College teaching the Firefighter I/II program for the last 17 years in Indianapolis. He has taught at many state fire schools on topics such as extrication, leadership, truck company operations, flashover, and rapid intervention skills to name a few. He also instructs the Auto/Machinery Extrication module for Indiana Task Force One, as well as many other departments around the Midwest. He also is adjunct instructor for the State of Indiana teaching topics of Strategy and Tactics, Incident Safety Officer, Leadership and Company Officer skills to name a few. Shawn also is the fire training team leader for To Hell and Back 1, 2, and 3, an educational program released to every fire department in the United States on firefighter burn prevention through the People’s Burn Foundation in Indianapolis. Shawn also is the past president of the Indy Metro F.O.O.L.S. since its inception in 2002 til 2008. He currently owns and operates Burning Passion Fire Training which teaches a variety of classes in the Midwest. Shawn is also a member of E.L.I.T.E Public Safety Consulting providing classes on improving Leadership.

WELL, I'M DISAPPOINTED TO SAY THAT I COULDN'T MAKE IT TO FDIC. I SPENT A WEEK IN NASHVILLE TRIALING MY DOG IN THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS THE WEEK BEFORE SO I COULDN'T TAKE ANOTHER WEEK OFF. HOW WAS IT???

hey thanks for coming up to angola brother you did a very good job i think every dept could use a little bit of what u were teachin up there. Im only 19 but im gettin ready to be "the NEW GUY" up at burns harbor fire dept just got hired we respond to pretty much only the steele mill but are 5th alarm for portage IN so hopefully some of the guys there have heard u talk u have a lot of good things to say. i know the vol. dept that im on can use a lot of what u said we had 4 full timers and 3 JRs there from orland i think we could for sure use the dont just B****, U can b**** but give us sum ideas of how to fix the prob to. again you did a great job and thank you.

Please allow me to invite you to a site designed by responders for responders... the crew that is doing it is CISM multilevel trained and are there for the guys after the bad calls. It helps the responders that do not yet have a team or would be worried that they asking for help would be seen as weakness. Please join and share it when you can. As a chaplain with over 25 years of service to fire departments I am excited with it's potential to provide support.
