Professional Qualifications:: Been a member of Arkansas Fire Service 38 years. Been an instructor 32 years. Oldest operating EMT in the State with the lowest EMT number. I have been the service rep. for Waterous Fire pumps since 1982 and own the oldest fire apparatus pump repair business in the state of Arkansas. Teach "Lets Talk Pumps" at FDIC.

Topics you provide training for:: Moving water (fire flows), Pump Operator training, what is not in the books. Differance between a good flow of water and just spraying water.
Choosing the best hose size for the job. Highrise hose operations" What you don't Know"

Areas of expertise:: Fire pumps, foam systems, nozzle studies, highrise studies on suppling fire streams. Hose nozzles. Designing pumping apparatus. How to inspect a new apparatus for acceptance including the 4 hour pump acceptance testing.

Bio:: Joined the Arkansas Fire Service November 1,1970. Became the yougest fire instructor in the state in 1974. Took the second EMT Class held in the state in 1974. Opened Fire Apparatus Repair Company, Inc. in 1979, became a Waterous Service Center in 1982. Collects fire trucks and related fire equipment. Basically eat-up with it! First instructor from Arkansas to teach at FDIC.

Pump anodes to prevent pump failure due to electrolysis

We have had two pumps through our shop, in 2011, that the pump housings were totally eaten away causing a failure of the pump. It first appeared to be bad water systems or operator error, however when the second showed up, we begin noticing the the intake strainers were being replaced more often that usual. Both apparatus have polytanks.

A third apparatus from 2010 that had a pump failure, had the same damage as the two new pumps. The 2010 repair, originally had a steel tank, but it…

Certified pump testing

Does anyone know of a state that requires a state ceertification for a person or company to conduct pump certification test? There are alot of departments here that are getting taken on annual service test being done by people who have never heard of NFPA 1911. Any information will be greatly appreciated. BOB
