Edward, Thanks for joining CSF (Common Sense Firefighting ). It's a fire ground decison making group on the site. Add to any of the discussions you like at any time. There are quite a few good one going on right now. I see you are a Lt in a combo dept. Is that difficult to lead on the fire ground because of different manning at different times of the day ?
What do you normally get on fire responses?/

At recent drill that my crew performed on the Drag Rescue Device, we found some issues with the DRD. We first found that we had a hard time getting to the DRD when the firefighter is on their side. The SCBA pack partilly blocks access to the DRD strap. We also found that it may dislodge a fire helmet and put pressure on the scba mask.
We were able to experiment utilizing hand tools and found that the halligan bar performed the best in removing the downed firefighter. It provided enough distance between the firefighter and the rescuer to get the downed firefighter out of the hazard area. We tried a pike pole that did not have any grips and that proved useless.
I have uploaded some picks from our drill and they are in my photo album. To prevent damage to the fire coat, we used webbing and a girth hitch over top the coat to simulate to DRD.
    Thanks
