Firefighting stiffens arteries, impairs heart.

Firefighting causes stiff arteries and “cardiac fatigue,” conditions also found in weightlifters and endurance athletes, according to two recent studies by researchers at the Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI), located at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
