-Some of the new apparatus coming in is equipped with an exhaust regeneration system that is basically a filter on the exhaust system to catch "pollution and particulates". When the filter is "full" the system regenerates itself.
-This is accomplished by running the motor in high idle which raises the exhaust temperature so that any pollution or particulates are burned off and the filter is restored to clean.
-Sounds good but it is a crappy system. The regen process uses approximately 16% of the total fuel cell... which is ridiculous.
-The process for "cleaning" the air scrubber uses so much fuel to accomplish this that it seems to me that any benefit goes out the window. The system is something we were told is a requirement to have but it seems universally disliked as a poor design from Pierce.
-Consequently after examining our recent deliver of Pierce apparatus, 4 pumpers and 2 ladders, the general consensus is that the overall quality of Pierce apparatus has declined so much that we have switched to Seagrave for our latest purchase of 4 pumpers.
We have the Regeneration system on our KME also, I have heard that pierce is not what they used to be , we have only one left a 1994 lance
