"Outside The Box" Engine Company Operations

Engine Company work is often viewed as easy or not as fulfilling as "Truck Company work". This is absolutely not the case and some very "high speed" Engine Companies go to work everyday in very tough and arduous environments. They are only successful by relying on their relentless training, personal experiences and hunger to progress in the engine world. This group is geared toward Engine Company tactics that use "outside the box" thinking to accomplish. Its purpose is to exchange information…See More

Kevin Story replied to Scott Collier's discussion Ventilation in the group High-Rise Fire Group
"Scott this is a pretty broad question in regards to high-rises as the answer to ventilation of high-rises is driven by the building and it's systems. The second part to answer this is the occupancy of the high-rise itself."

They tend to get taken off as most firefighters prefer their hand light carried somewhere besides their neck. With a little cost and effort you can put these straps that are laying around to use.Fire get a couple of 2 inch split key rings, hopefully you have some left from…See More

Chief Ray Hoff's B.A.G. It

Copied out the Fire Engineering article Remembering Chief Ray Hoff...

Ray translated his lifetime of experience on the fireground to practical common sense instruction for all firefighters . In his own words, he said:

“I have used my experiences as a training tool to make impact in our classes of officer and firefighter training. The size-up process is a process which you take a look at the structure, the fire condition,…

When you go to a support area of your department and do not get the help or service you want, it angers you, because you know that person has a job because the Department exists. They are putting themselves above you and it does not set well. But…
