I agree with Mr Halton about the sprinklers, I strongly suggest wired smoke detectors and I have always felt that it was a good idea to plum in a garden hose with a length of 10 to 20 ft under the kitchen and bathroom sink.

I was reading that barn earns can "Placing sheets of drywall on the loft floor and covering them with plywood retards fire, often allowing local firefighters to extinguish a fire before it burns through the loft. " Maybe this should be code...
