MDFR brought out the best of the best for this, the 2nd Annual Benchmark competition. Each year, companies from across the county compete in an evolution based on NFPA 1410. Companies first compete by District and Shift and the winners at this level compete county-wide. This year the evolution was a 300' flying stretch (3") to supply a 150' attack line. Hydrant supply must be made and 4 targets knocked down. The standard is 4 minutes. Rescue 52A (Yep, an EMS crew with a borrowed apparatus) layed down a blistering 1:16.00 in the final round! That wasn't the fastest, though. Engine 8 posted a 1:11 in the semi-finals to move into the championship round.

This program goes a long way towards boosting morale and team work. It gets the companies out of the day room and onto the drill ground to polish the basic evolutions to perfection. Winners receive a plaque and a flag to fly at their station for the District/Shift Champions and a perpetual trophy goes to the Grand Champions to display at their fire house for a year.
