Deputy Fire Chief Jim Smith
Okotoks Fire Department
Jim has 18 years of experience in the fire service. Jim started off fighting wildland fires in 1990 with the Canadian Military. When being posted to CFB Cold Lake Jim started training as a municipal firefighter in the Ardmore Volunteer Fire Department. After several years of firefighting Jim decided to enter into instruction for the fire service. Jim has instructed since 1996 specializing in NFPA 1001 Firefighter training as well as Fire Investigation and Fire Officer training. Jim has also taught NFPA courses such as 472, 1002, 1021, 1031, 1041, 1051, 1071, 1081, and 1521. Jim has also taught many other courses including Incident Command Systems and Law for the Fire Service. Jim has taught around North America including the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Jim currently resides in Okotoks Alberta with his family and still enjoys teaching firefighters and fire officers across the country.
