Where firefighters come to talk training

SOP’s and SOG’s are a fantastic way to make sure everyone is on the same page about what needs to be done and how. They provide the standards for actions that should be taken by fire fighters in certain situations to ultimately ensure the safety of everyone at the scene.

Standardized procedures and guides hold the fire fighters accountable for their actions. It gives them a reason for what they did if someone got hurt as a direct result of their actions, that way if they did something wrong they can take responsibility for their actions whether right or wrong. I think SOG’s and SOP’s are absolutely necessary and useful especially when kept up to date. They make fire stations more organized and efficient. It also allows fire fighters to have a more accurate description of the tasks they must perform.

If these guides and procedures did not exist fire fighters could take actions without consequence. There would be no standard for them to follow, allowing them to do whatever they feel or think is necessary, which may not always be the best or safest action to be taken at the time.
