Fire Engineering Training Community

Where firefighters come to talk training

I'm a computer programmer and one of my current interests is "community" software.

I started creating software 30 yrs ago and have been a paid professional for 19 yrs now. My wife and 2 sons and I reside in Broken Arrow, just outside of Tulsa, OK.

When I joined PennWell in July of 2008 the first website I updated was the Courage & Valor Foundation. Since then I've become involved in an effort to be able to provide all the PennWell websites with "community" features, including comments, ratings, forums, photo & video galleries, groups, blogs, etc.

The Fire Engineering Training Community has been raised as a shining example for us to follow, so I wanted to see what it is like. I'm very impressed so far! I invite your comments about what works well here and what could be improved.

Over the past 18 yrs I've been involved with a variety of "online communities" and I am very aware that they all are a combination of both how the software works and also how the people behave toward each other. I've heard good things about the behavior here, but I'm aware that I'm very much an outsider when it comes to FE training. So I don't expect to be making many more posts. :)

Regards,

-james.
