Susanna Schmitt Williams currently serves as the Division Chief of Training & Standards for the Jacksonville (NC) Fire Department. In her 15 year career, she has held the positions of Firefighter/EMT, Master firefighter/EMT, Driver Operator/EMT-I, Captain, Volunteer Program Coordinator and currently Division Chief of Training & Standards. Chief Williams has managed multi-million dollar budgets and held high-level administrative leadership roles. She is experienced in staffing, recruitment, training, team/project leadership, policy and procedure development, grant writing, intra-agency collaboration, and accreditation. She is an innovator and thought leader who is passionate about diversity initiatives and holds many fire service certifications. Chief Williams has assisted with grant writing and secured close to $2M in grant award monies for various organizations.

Chief Williams applied for and was accepted into a premier magnet high school in the Philadelphia public school system, Central High School (252). Central holds the distinction of being the only high school in the United States to confer Bachelor of Arts degrees to graduating seniors who achieve high academic standards. Chief Williams holds this distinction with a BA awarded to her for her high school academic achievements. She went on to study at Temple University in Philadelphia and graduated c** laude with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Chief Williams also holds a Masters in Public Administration from Anna Maria College, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. She was the recipient of the IAFC Foundation's Heather Westphal Memorial Scholarship, Eastern Carolina Firefighters Association Emergency Services Scholarship, NC Rescue & Emergency Medical Services Inc. Scholarship, and a two time recipient of the Scholarship Fund of Local Government Federal Credit Union.
