Bio:
Robert Medford has served as Chief of the Camden Fire Department since April 2016. He holds Degrees in Fire and Emergency Response and Fire Science Management from Southern Arkansas University Tech in East Camden, a Bachelors Degree in Emergency Management from Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas. He also holds a Chief Fire Officer designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence and an Associate Emergency Managers Certification from the International Association of Emergency Managers.

He began his fire service career in 1985 as a volunteer firefighter and was a small business owner for ten years. He has been a full time firefighter for the City of Camden since 2003 and currently serves as an Adjunct Instructor for the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management. He is a member of the International Association of Emergency Managers, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, and the Center for Public Safety Excellence. He is a former Adjunct Instructor for the Arkansas Fire Academy, and former member of the Arkansas Fire Protection Services Board. He serves on the Executive Committee of the Arkansas Association of Fire Chiefs and on the Arkansas Municipal League Public Safety Committee.

Leadership – Equipping Your Firefighters with Complete PPE

     We all know that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a necessary part of firefighting. Through the years PPE has evolved into the most high-tech equipment ever used by the modern firefighter. Every year that passes brings new innovations to make a dangerous job, on a good day, a little safer.



     None of us would ever dream of sending our firefighters into a burning structure without proper PPE. We would never send them into fight fire without the best gear we can…

Leadership – Problem Solving or Putting Out Fires?

     I have had these ideas on leadership swimming around in my head for quite some time. I have now decided to try to share some of my thoughts on leadership in the hopes that my thoughts on the subject might, in some small way may help other leaders or aspiring leaders. At the very least, maybe it will generate the desire to slow down and consider different solutions to problems.
