Top issues in your department:
Decreased manning and loss of two Rescue Units. Funding cuts have lead to reduced educational reimbursements and reductions in Training budget. This has also hindered our desired move to provide ALS services.
Professional Qualifications:
Fire Captain, Florida Licensed Paramedic, USLA Certified Open Water LIfeguard. ACLS and PALS Instructor.
Topics you provide training for:
Computer based and practical training for the departments EMT's, Paramedics, and First Responder's. Directly responsible for training of individual's assigned to my Engine Company as well as developing a training session on a rotational basis with other Captains on my watch to be presented to the entire watch.
Areas of expertise:
EMS, Water Rescue and PWC (LRC) Rescue.
Bio:
I'm 42 y/o and have been with the department since 1994. In 2003 I was promoted to Lieutenant and spent 14 months in the Fire Prevention Bureau. In June of 2008, I was promoted to Captain and was assigned to Rescue 34. In January of 2009 I was moved to Engine 6 on B-watch. I began my medical career in 1998 by becoming an EMT. Then in 2000 I enrolled in Paramedic school. After graduation I began working part time with Escambia County EMS and continue till today. In 2004 I became USLA certified and began working, part time with Destin Fire/Rescue's Beach Safety Division as a beach lifeguard. I continue to serve part time during the spring/summer and fall season.
