Bio:
Forest Herndon currently serves as a member of a Damage Control Training team for the United States Navy Military Sealift Command, and has over 30 years experience in providing required and specialized training to the United States Merchant Marine, Navy, Coast Guard, and Army. He has extensive involvement in research projects and continues to work closely with both the United States Navy Research Laboratory and U.S Coast Guard Research and Development Center (Fire and Safety Test Detachment) on the subject matter of Ship Survivability concerns.

During his career, he has analyzed, designed, developed, implemented, evaluated and conducted training, in Basic and Advanced Marine Firefighting, Shipboard Damage Control, and Chemical Biological Radiological – Defense (Weapons of Mass Destruction Preparedness and Recovery). He also has experience in Vessel Force Protection programs that includes US Navy Anti-terrorist Officer Training, Firearms and Ships Security Training.

Curricula for these programs have been adopted for use not only by the Military Sealift Command, but by other maritime training institutes including the United States Merchant Marine Academy and Maryland Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies.

Prior to his employment with the U.S Department of Defense, Forest served as a Marine Firefighting Instructor for the U.S Maritime Administration where he instructed students from numerous U.S Maritime Colleges, (U.S Merchant Marine Academy Kings Point, State University of New York Maritime College, and Maine Maritime Academy) along with land-based fire service personnel. He also was instrumental in other training facilities attaining U.S Coast Guard certification in marine firefighting training. (Miami Dade Community College and Washington State Fire Training Academy).

Forest is also a published author on the subject of Shipboard Firefighting including International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) Marine Fire Fighting First Edition ISBN 0-87939-177-4). He has served numerous NFPA committes including on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1405 Land-Based Firefighters, who Respond to Marine Vessel Fires, (1990), and most recently, NFPA 1005, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Marine Fire Fighting for Land-Based Fire Fighters 2014 Edition.

He is currently the Director and CEO of Maritime Emergency Response Educators, LLC, a corporation, which specializes, in first responder training in the maritime arena.
