As our department gets younger, the pride and work ethic is changing. Instilling the importance of pride and doing the right thing when they are going through their initial training is not taught to them.

Bio:
I am a 27-year member of the fire service. I have taught classes to fire departments and fire schools in Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, and Kansas. I am a Lieutenant with the Iowa City Fire Department and a firefighter with the Solon Volunteer Fire Department. I am a Field Staff Instructor for the Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau, a member of the Iowa Fireman’s Association, the International Association of Firefighters, the International Society of Fire Service Instructors, and the Iowa Society of Fire Service Instructors.
I was the recipient of the 2005 Floyd Wm. “Bill” Nelson “Instructor of the Year” award presented by the Iowa Society of Fire Service Instructors.
In 2006 I participated as a peer reviewer for the “Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program”.
