Bio:
Chief Purchase has 32 years in the fire service with the Norton Shores Fire Department and was appointed Fire Chief in 1999. He has been a certified fire instructor for over 17 years and has actively taught fire officer programs around the state of Michigan. Chief Purchase is an EFO graduate of the National Fire Academy and currently serves as a Director on the Michigan Fire Chiefs Executive Board. He is also a current board member of the West Michigan Regional Fire Training Center and chair of the Michigan Region 6 Incident Management Team. In 2006 he was appointed by the Governor to a 2nd term on the Michigan Firefighters Training Council and serves as vice-chair. In 2004, the Michigan Fire Service Instructors Association named him State Fire Instructor of the Year and in 2006 was named Michigan’s Fire Chief of the year by the Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs. He assisted in the development of a course entitled Fire Chief 101, The Strategy and Tactics of Administration and is one of two instructors delivering the course throughout Michigan. He also authored the chapter on Fire Department Training and Education in Jones and Bartlett’s recently published Chief Officer’s Desk Reference.
