Fire Engineering Training Community

Where firefighters come to talk training

What do the stats have to do with it?

"This book identifies 25 prevalent and vital topics necessary for firefighters and company officers to address when called to combat fires in residential buildings, highlighting issues common to fires in those structures. These topics are obviously not an exhaustive or exclusive list, but are compiled from our personal and firefighting teammates’ experiences, data repeatedly noted in recent “near miss reports,” National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) recommendations in after-action reports, and in line-of-duty death (LODD)reports." Page XIV

One of the issues we deal with in the fire service is how to interpret the endless streams of information we are bombarded with everyday. Additionally, we struggle with how to turn that into tangible ideas and practices so we do not repeat our fire service mistakes.

Specific for today's preach is an update from NFPA on Residential Building Fires......every 64 seconds in the USA we have the opportunity to have an Oscar winning performance or a Razzie award failure. The beauty is WE get to decide that outcome by what we train on, how we train, and then how we execute.
