Where firefighters come to talk training

So, we're a small volunteer department and have been discussing the idea of a "probie book" and I was wondering if any departments have such a book, the member I'm currently looking for this book is of age to fight fire, so there aren't any limitations as far as the child labor laws, but I'm thinking of a book to cover everyone, brand new people to those who have fire service experience. Right now, those who don't have any schooling have to enter the basic academy then based on their experience with our own training they are able to ride as an equipment handler or hydrant person. Right now the only real requirement would be knowing the apparatus and being proficient at the hydrant and switching out cylinders for interior personnel. Some of the ideas were basics such ask knowing the apparatus and equipment, being proficient with the hydrant, and we had other ideas such as chain of command, and the like, we are looking for much more input, not necessarily something that will push them away, yet something the officers can sign off on saying they are confident of the specific skill or skills we are asking of them.

Ziggy, you may want to consider getting a copy of the Skills Sheets for the FF1 program from the training center. You could use that for an in-house sign-off sheet, and only have to add a few station specific sections.
