Where firefighters come to talk training

Class II safety harness for ladder ops

My vol. dept currently has a 100' aerial with bucket. Also, we were recently issued Globe's G-Xtreme pants with internal (Class II) harness. I am wondering if it is possible to use our harness with a pompier hook/carabiner (ex: CMC ProSeries XL) instead of the Class I belts we have on the truck? Does anyone know of any NFPA standards that address this or have any other info?

The OSHA Fall Protection Standard requries a Class III Full Body Harness. I had a conversation with the local OSHA area office yesterday regarding the type of harness that is required while operating arial platforms. The Safety Specialist that I spoke clearly indicated that a Class III harness and lanyard are required.

My Department uses a Class II Gentor harness and OSHA told me this is not suffifient to meet the fall protection requirement and that a Class III harness is required.

I have never seen a truck crew wearing full body harnesses. NFPA does not have a standard....even if they did OSHA is a regulatory agency and NFPA is not. I am still researching this topic and welcome comments. Anyone else care to weigh in.....?

Is there no one else who has a class II harness and does ladder/tower/aerial fire work?

I guess OSHA is the resource but I'm wondering what other dept's do in this case?
