Fire Engineering Training Community

Where firefighters come to talk training

As a Captain who has delt with the harsh reality of the back lash of inforcing policy and standards, my question is, Why do we spend/waste so much time fighting policies and standards designed to get us home at the end of the day and have saved countless lives, that we have lost focus on the respect of anothers life and who pays the ultimate price by ignoring them?

Dennis,

Much of it is cultural. The fire service values tradition and that is very positive. However, finding the balance between tradition and safety is often difficult.
