Fire Engineering Training Community

Where firefighters come to talk training

G******** All;

Many of the old timers may remember a video, circa 1982 that is a great example of why we wear our PPE, no matter what we are doing on or above a fire. The video is narrated in part by the firefighter himself; he was in his bunker pants and helmet, carrying a saw (I believe) up the ladder. The fire flashed from underneath the aerial and he caught fire and rapidly descended the ladder running over a firefighter in the process. The firefighter made it down the ladder and was quickly hosed down. He goes on to provide an interview regarding the extensive burn treatment. Although tragic, this gentleman lived and, in my humble opinion saved many of our lives by telling his story.

Does anyone know where I can get a download of this video? I looked on the videos here and many other places and cannot find it.

Thanks...BE SAFE!!! Scott

Thanks Dave,

As you know, the video is a timeless classic for the purpose of demonstrating the need for ppe.

Be SAFE!

Good Call Dave, thanks for the reference. This link has the escape but does not have the interview. Still, a good illustration.

Be SAFE, Scott
