Where firefighters come to talk training

There are 3 essential qualities I look for in new firefighters. If a person possesses them, we know we have something we can work with. They are:
1. Teachable,
2. Willing to work, and
3. Burning desire

A "teachable" person is open to learning. They understand that they don’t “know it all” and come to work open-minded and ready to learn something new.

A person who is "willing to work" is exact...ly what is needed in the fire service. There is no room for slackers or loafers. There is too much to do and often times, not enough people to do it.

The quality many people forget to look for is a "burning desire". Firefighting cannot just be a job. It has to be a calling. A firefighter has to possess a deep rooted desire to help other people, and thankfully most do.

What other qualities do you think new firefighters should possess?
