What's up with that Code?

When the fire alarm sounds, all of the stairwell doors lock. This is to keep evacuating occupants from leaving the stairwell.... Yes, the code exists in cities today even after the Cook County Admin. fire.

What goofy codes exist in your juridiction that can get us killed or the fleeing occupants?
