A different perspective

I bellieve that Chief Officers have different perspectives of the job. We are responsible for the members safety, sometimes at their malcontent! Our assessment of a situation has to look at the Risk/Benefit in a different light than the interior or exterior firefighter/officer working the job. I have been personally criticized for decisions at scenes For being overly safety conscious. But in those cases, there was nothing to save but property. Too much has happened in the last 2 decades to ignore Firefighter safety throughout all states of the union, and I feel if we don't learn from those incidents, we are doomed to repeat them.
Safety and Survival seminars bring to light the dangers we can face, and the "Murphy's Law" scenarios that can occur. I pray I never have to deal with a situation that some of my colleagues have had to deal with. That is my motivation!
