Informal Smoke Inhalation Stats in US for last 2 months

The CPTC has been informally tracking smoke inhalation in the US utilizing the AP. In the last 2 - 1/2 months first responders have transported 583 civilians for treatment of smoke inhalation, 261 civilians have died from smoke inhalation (91 children), 30 have died from smoke inhalation and burn injuries, and 55 firefighters were transported or hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

The numbers are probably much higher as many departments do not report fires or injuries.

And unless they have some pretty damn good reason for not having an SCBA on and in place they all need to be slapped.

I have been doing this since 1981 and every working fire I have ever been to has some guy getting treated on scene or transported for smoke, in 1981 my then VFD had all of 2 SCBA's today that same FD has one for every riding slot on every truck. I know they are not the "norm" but come on why does this happen? If this number is an average and it is likely a low ball if it is that’s 350 plus a year!

Does no one read anything about what the hell is in smoke?
