Where firefighters come to talk training

When it comes to basic firefighter training, how do you select a text? Does the state approve a single title to use or allow you to choose from an approved list? Or are you able to select what you want?

What are the pros & cons of the process your state uses?

Hi Brent, thanks for the input!
We have been waiting for this book since we first heard about it. I think this will be a graet resource.
Problem is, most stste test banks have questions from Ifsta or delmar fo final exams. How do you intend on intergrating your text into these systems?
That is definitely an important part of the process, and we are working right now to ensure our books will be referenced by the test banks used for state certification.
One more question
Will you be including support material
Like powerpoint programs for each chapter
tests for each chapter etc.?
Yes, our ancillary products will include:
Instructor manual
PowerPoint
Student Study Guide

And we'll also add more eproducts as development continues.

Will you be at FDIC? If so, please let me know so we can invite you to a seminar about the book.
I'll be there and will be meeting you with Frank Ricci about some of our projects anyway.
You may contact me at Shift1commander@comcast.net or Shift1commander@WallingfordFire.com
See you in a couple of weeks

Julie, when is this book supposed to be available? What will the cost be? Will FD academies be able to receive a "review copy" prior to deciding which manuals to purchase? We use the IFSTA Essentials manuals and the test bank for state certification for FF I and II are drawn from there. However, I believe our new Fire Chief would be open to examining other high quality training materials. You can e-mail me personally at: morganx2@sbcglobal.net Thanks!!

Hi Jim,

Sorry about the delayed response! We will have a powerpoint program, DVDs, instructor guide, and more. We're still finalizing all the details. Check out www.FirefighterIandII.com -- it's my website for the basics book and new information will be posted on it soon.
Hi Nick,

Sorry about the delayed response. The student textbook will be $80, and we are collecting information for review copies. Please visit this link, https://secure.pennwell.com/bookstore/examination_copy.cfm/, to make your request and we'll definitely be in touch.

Thanks!
In North Carolina, the state has finally, in my opinion, made a very good move. They no longer specify a certain publication. They are basing everything on the NFPA 1001 JPRs. In the state lesson plans that are available online they cite the JPRs and the page number references to each of the 3 current books (IFSTA - 5th Ed., Delmar - 3rd Ed.?, Jones & Bartlett - 2nd Ed.). While their page references are not always accurate, it does allow the instructors the flexibility to use what they have or what they currently use. The training should be the same no matter which text is used as we train to the job. As a member of ISFSI I had an opportunity to be a part of the process for the FF I and II Handbook. I hope that NC will add this one to their Lesson Plans quickly.
